President Yoon Seok-yeol attended the greeting ceremony for former Chief of Staff Lee’s retirement and Chief of Staff Chung’s inauguration held at the Yongsan Presidential Office this afternoon.
In his retirement address, Chief of Staff Lee said, “I am sorry to leave behind many various tasks, but I believe that the various reform tasks we have promoted will be carried out without a hitch.”
He went on to say, “I think there is no problem that cannot be solved if we work together for a long time in the spirit of communication and coexistence,” adding that the one year and eight months I spent in the President’s Office was the most meaningful time of my life.
He entered the President’s Office in August 2022 as Senior Secretary to the President for National Affairs Planning, served as Director of Policy and Chief of Staff, and oversaw the administration of the Yoon Seok-yeol government until this day.
In his inauguration speech, Chief of Staff Chung said, “Presidential secretaries and administrators are the steering wheel and engine that lead the Republic of Korea,” and “Let us all join forces.” At the same time, he asked to overcome difficulties by uniting with ‘public spirit’.
Hong Cheol-ho, the new senior secretary for political affairs, said, “Yesterday, I felt that the president was a warm person when he personally introduced the new aides in front of reporters.”
The event continued with a choral performance by the Presidential Office Choir ‘Warm Hands’, led by Chief of Staff Lee.
The choir sang ‘We Need Our Love’ by singer Byun Jin-seop, which President Yoon sang with Chief of Staff Lee in a Lunar New Year holiday greeting video, and ‘My Way’, a pop song that is Chief Secretary Lee’s favorite song.
President Yoon and the Presidential Office staff saw off the outgoing Chief of Staff outside the government building. President Yoon personally opened and closed the door of Chief of Staff Lee’s car and watched him leave.
