Jeonnam Province won the national award for local non-tax revenue operation performance. Jeollanam-do announced that it achieved first place at the national provincial level and received the grand prize in the Ministry of Public Administration and Security’s 2024 local non-tax revenue operation performance analysis and diagnosis evaluation.
For the evaluation of local non-tax revenue operation performance, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety classifies 243 local governments nationwide into 14 groups reflecting population and financial status, and performs quantitative evaluation (80 points) such as non-tax revenue collection rate and qualitative evaluation such as self-collection efforts. It is done comprehensively by adding up (20 points). It has been conducted every year since 2015.
As a result of the evaluation, Jeonnam Province was selected as the best institution in the metropolitan province category, Gokseong-gun was selected as the best institution in the basic local government category, and Yeosu City and Goheung-gun were selected as excellent institutions and each received the Minister of Public Administration and Security Award.
Jeonnam Province received good reviews by increasing the collection rate through systematic and active arrears management, such as establishing an organic collaboration system between the non-tax revenue management department and the levying department and operating a period for intensive settlement of non-tax revenue arrears.
Park Seong-yeol, head of Jeonnam Provincial Taxation Department, said, “Following the Minister’s Award and securing 100 million won in special allocation tax at the Korea Local Finance Awards last year, the Grand Prize at the National Local Tax Development Forum, and the grand prize at the Taxpayer Rights Protection Presentation Contest, Jeonnam Provincial Government once again proved that it is an excellent local tax revenue agency with this award.” “We will continue to strive to expand local finances and provide better administrative services to residents by effectively managing local taxes and non-tax revenues,” he said.
