South Jeolla Province is starting a project to overcome low birth rates and regional extinction. On the 5th, Jeollanam-do held a pledge competition to practice work-life balance at provincial public offices and government-funded institutions at the Provincial Office’s Wangin’s Office under the slogan ‘Overcoming low birth rates and local extinction, work-life balance is the answer,’ to create a workplace culture that balances work and life. We decided to join in the spread.

Jeonnam Province established a new ‘Happy Child Care Time (2 hours per day)’ for public servants with children aged 6 to 8, and granted 5 days of special leave to public servants with children under 8 years of age. We decided to lead by example by revising the ‘Service Ordinance’. The 21 provincial government-affiliated public institutions and government-funded organizations also pledged to participate in creating a family-friendly workplace culture that achieves work-life balance.

The event was attended by more than 200 executives and employees, including Governor Kim Young-rok and heads of public institutions and government-funded institutions, introducing best practices of work-life balance in public institutions and government-funded institutions, a generational empathy talk with heads of institutions and employees in their 20s and 30s, a photo exhibition of fathers raising children in Jeollanam-do, and birth allowances. Promotion of the 318 Project was carried out.

Excellent examples of work-life balance practices, such as ▲ wise parenting stories using flexible working hours for in-house couples ▲ shortened working hours during pregnancy for pregnant women ▲ family-friendly organizational culture where everyone wants to work ▲ comfortable childcare life through the parental leave system, etc. Employees of the organization appeared in person and expressed various stories honestly, eliciting sympathy from attendees.

The generational empathy talk was held as a time to understand differences in thinking between generations and respect differences through conversations on various topics such as marriage, parenting, family, work life, and desirable organizational culture. We decided to improve the shortcomings through a pledge to practice work-life balance.

Governor Kim Young-rok said, “In order to overcome low birth rates and regional extinction, it is urgent to expand a family-friendly work culture that promotes work and life balance,” and added, “Starting with the Jeollanam-do Provincial Office and 21 investment and contribution organizations, a culture of work-life balance is being promoted in the province.” “I hope it spreads everywhere and many organizations and companies join in,” he said.
