Former UN ambassador Ron Prosor (63) will be Israel’s new ambassador to Germany.

“The appointment of Prosor to Berlin symbolizes the importance of Israeli-German relations and the further strengthening of cooperation with the new government in Berlin,” Israel’s Foreign Minister Jair Lapid (58) said in a statement on Tuesday.

Prosor’s “experience and his long-term cooperation with the Israeli Foreign Ministry” will “make a major contribution to solving the challenges on the international stage,” Lapid continued.

▶ ︎ Ron Prosor was delighted with his new position in Berlin: “I am moved from the bottom of my heart to close the circle and return to Germany, the birthplace of my father Uri, as the Israeli ambassador.”

He thanked Lapid “for the trust he has placed in me and promises that I will do my best to strengthen the special relationship between the two countries.”

In Berlin, Prosor replaces Jeremy Issacharoff (66), who has been the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Germany since August 2017. Prosor has already held several diplomatic posts: Between 2011 and 2015 he was Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations and between 2007 and 2011 Israel’s ambassador to Great Britain. During his tenure, he accused the UN of prejudice against Israel.

In the 1980s, Prosor was the spokesman for the embassy in Bonn and also maintained connections with the GDR.
