The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) warned yesterday that “the future of jewish life in the West” is threatened by a sharp rise in anti-Semitism since the outbreak of Israel’s conflict with the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, last October 7.

The annual report of the ADL, the main Jewish rights advocacy group founded by the organization B’nai B’rith in the United States, notes that anti-Semitic incidents had increased before the war broke out in October, but that the conflict fueled “a fire that was already out of control“.

Written jointly with Tel Aviv Universitythe report says that anti-Semitic incidents in 2023 were well above 2022 figures in most countries with large Jewish communities, including United States, France, United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Brazil and Mexico. The release of the report coincides with Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel.

The document was also revealed amid a massive wave of pro-Palestinian demonstrations and pro-Israel counter-demonstrations on at least 60 university campuses in the United States and other Western countries, with hundreds of arrests and clashes with local police. /WITH INFORMATION FROM AFP
