jpnn.com – JAKARTA – JHL Group has two coconut processing factories, namely Dewacoco located in Goal Village, East Sahu District, West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, and another in Manado, North Sulawesi.

There is another factory to be established in Kalimantan, which is currently still under development.

Dewacoco is also exploring the possibility of building a coconut processing plant in the Riau Islands.

Dewacoco coconut factory can process coconuts purchased from farmers into something that has high added value.

“Previously, Indonesian coconuts were exported in whole form (round coconuts), now with this factory, we can process them first before exporting them. This is what is called coconut downstreaming,” said Dewacoco Founder Jerry Hermawan Lo.

Previously, coconut farmers in Halmahera sold coconuts in whole form or in copra form. If sold in copra form, the coconut fiber becomes waste which is then simply burned. This is not environmentally friendly and can harm public health.

At the Dewacoco factory, coconut fiber waste is also processed into renewable fuel.

“Dewacoco is the only company in the world that produces biomass fuel from coconut fiber waste,” said Jerry.

JHL Group’s coconut factory has employed more than 1,000 employees, the majority of whom are local people.
