The convicted Jhonier Leal, who is serving a 55-year prison sentence for the murder of his mother, Marleny Hernández, and his brother, the renowned stylist Mauricio Leal, has filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office.
In a letter sent to this entity, Leal claims to be a victim of “psychological torture”, “persecution” and “coercion” by officials of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (Inpec).
In his letter, Leal describes a series of events that occurred in August 2024, which, according to him, have affected his psychological and emotional state. One of the most serious events, as recounted by Leal himself, It occurred when Inpec officials entered his cell at night to carry out a search.arguing that they were complying with orders from the Attorney General’s Office. Leal maintains that this intervention was carried out improperly and outside the permitted hours, which, in his opinion, constitutes a violation of his rights.

In his complaint, Leal details that the officers searched him while he was sleeping, after the permitted time of 8:15 p.m.., preventing him from observing the procedure, which increased his distrust of the actions of the prison authorities. “Being detained and imprisoned is not a reason for the use of psychological torture methods,” he said in his letter, emphasizing that these actions violate his peace of mind and affect his mental health.
In addition, in the letter, Jhonier Leal requests the intervention of the Attorney General’s Office to investigate the actions of Inpec officials. involved in the events, specifically mentioning prosecutor Mario Burgos, whom he accuses of having ordered the search. Leal considers that these actions are part of a “persecution” against him, which would be aggravating his situation in La Picota prison, in Bogotá.
