As US President Joe Biden abruptly withdrew from the Democratic presidential nomination race on the 21st (local time), First Lady Jill Biden supported whatever path the president chose, the Wall Street Journal and CNN reported.
Mrs. Biden remained one of President Biden’s most ardent supporters, supporting every decision her husband made as he pondered his political future in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, the Biden campaign said.
“Up until the very last moment of his decision, she supported whatever path he chose,” said Elizabeth Alexander, communications director for Mrs. Jill.
He added, “She (Mrs. Jill) is his (President Biden’s) biggest supporter and advocate, and has always stood by President Biden in the trustworthy way that only a spouse of nearly 50 years can.”
Mrs. Jill has long been the president’s closest confidant and most fierce protector, exerting influence over the White House and the campaign. CNN evaluated that Mrs. Jill played an active role as a proxy during the campaign, traveling across the country on behalf of President Biden to strengthen her husband’s support.
Ms. Jill is expected to travel to Paris later this week to lead the U.S. delegation to the 2024 Olympics.
