Jindo-gun won the ‘Encouragement Award’ in the 2024 Jeollanam-do Volunteer Center Evaluation. Jindo-gun attended the ‘2024 Jeollanam-do Volunteer Conference’ held at the Kim Dae-jung Auditorium of Jeonnam Provincial Office on the 4th and received an encouragement award in the field of volunteer center evaluation.
Jindo-gun is playing a central role in volunteer activities with the residents of the county by carrying out various volunteer activities, including two flood recovery activities this year, a cool summer bok-dal event, operation of a Ureonggaksi volunteer group, safety guardians in our neighborhood, and side dish service for the vulnerable. It received high praise in one respect.
In the volunteer merit category at the competition, Kim So-hyeon (Secretary General of Jisan Camellia Association) received the Jeollanam-do Governor’s Award, and Kyung-yul Cho (Chairman of the Uisin-myeon Branch of the Korean Red Cross) received the Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly Chairman’s Award.
In addition, in the category of people who contributed to volunteer activities, An Mi-ja (Vice President of Gunnae-myeon Saemaeul Women’s Association) received a plaque of appreciation from the Volunteer Center Chairman, and Baek Yong-guk (Vice President of Jindo-gun Voluntary Crime Prevention Association) received the Volunteer Center Director Award.
Meanwhile, Jindo-gun (Governor Hee-soo Kim) held an opening ceremony for the newly built Jisan-myeon Senior Welfare Center on the 11th to revitalize the Jisan-myeon Senior Citizens’ Association and improve the welfare of local seniors.
About 100 people attended the event, including South Jeolla Province Governor Kim Young-rok, Jindo County Governor Kim Hee-soo, Jindo County Branch President Lee Ki-am of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, and other local residents. The event included a project progress report, commemorative remarks, and congratulatory remarks.
Previously, the Jisan-myeon Senior Citizens’ Association was located on the second floor of the Cultural Welfare Center, so the space was small and seniors had difficulty moving around.
In order to resolve these inconveniences and support the leisure activities of the elderly, Jindo-gun invested special coordination grants from Jeollanam-do and military funds to build a 186.14㎡ first-floor facility equipped with a conference room that can accommodate about 70 people, a senior citizen’s association office, and a kitchen. Newly built.
In a commemorative speech, County Governor Kim Hee-soo said, “We hope that the newly opened Jisan-myeon Senior Welfare Center will be widely used as a communication space for the elderly,” and “We will actively support the elderly so that they can engage in leisure and hobby activities in a healthy and energetic manner at the welfare center.” He said.
