In fact, the Department of Telecommunications i.e. DoT and Trai have been putting pressure on telecom operators for a long time to stop fake calls and messages. Its effect is visible. According to the report, Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea and BSNL together are blocking 45 lakh fake calls every day.

45 lakh fake calls blocked

A new solution has been created by Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea and BSNL in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications, which has achieved success in stopping fake calls on a large scale. According to the Ministry of Communications, so far one third of the total 45 lakh fake calls are being stopped from entering the Indian telecom network. This involves identifying and blocking international fake calls before they reach the customer. The government says that it will soon succeed in stopping fake calls. Its next phase will be centralized.

1.77 crore connections disconnected

According to the ministry’s data, DoT has blocked the numbers of about 1.77 crore users who obtained mobile connections on fake or forged documents. Apart from this, 33.48 lakh mobile connections have been disconnected and 49,930 mobile handsets used by cyber criminals in cyber crime hotspots or districts of the country have been blocked. The same 77.61 lakh mobile numbers have been disconnected, which had issued more mobile connections on one ID than the prescribed limit.

Government’s big action on fake calls

Additionally, the Department of Telecommunications has blocked 2.29 lakh mobile phones involved in cyber crime or fraudulent activities across India. Apart from this, about 20,000 entities involved in sending malicious SMS and 32,000 SMS headers and 2 lakh SMS templates have been disconnected. Apart from this, 71,000 points of sale (SIM agents) have been blacklisted. Also, 365 FIRs have been registered in many states and union territories (UTs).
