The capital has not finished with power cuts. Three of the generators that produce electricity at the Andekaleka power plant have broken down, JIRAMA announced last night. This leads to a lack of energy on the interconnected network of Antananarivo (RIA), hence the frequent and long power cuts recorded in the capital and the large surrounding cities, such as Antsirabe, in recent days.

In its press release in the form of an unconvincing excuse, JIRAMA indicates that it is in the process of solving the problems in order to be able to restore electricity as soon as possible, but the discontent of users is rising in the face of these untimely cuts. JIRAMA may have announced the end of rotating load shedding about three weeks ago, but the reality is quite different since in many neighborhoods, power cuts are still relevant, even being part of the daily lives of users like in Talatamaty.

Cuts that weigh on users. Work stoppage for some, material damage especially for household appliances put to the test. For manufacturers, a significant increase in expenditure for the purchase of fuel to supply their own generator or even a drop in production.

Debacles continue to follow one another at the Jirama. From mismanagement to corruption, through the obsolescence of equipment and the financial impasse due to huge debts and unpaid debts, the Jirama had a hard time recovering. For some observers, opening up to competition or privatizing this state-owned company remains the only solution.
