The elections for the presidency of Benfica are scheduled for October 2025, but the first candidate to enter the race will be João Diogo Manteigas, who will announce his candidacy on Friday.
Trained in law and with a closer connection to the field of sports law, this lawyer, who also serves as a trainer at the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP), believes that this is the right time to start the debate and present ideas, as he does not want to make the decision dependent on the current sporting moment.
The Benfica member has, in fact, been quite active in the public space over the past few years, through the publication of opinion articles and comments in television debates.
The official presentation of the candidacy is scheduled for late Friday afternoon at a hotel in Lisbon.
