The creation of jobs linked to the relocation of production chains, derived from the nearshoring phenomenon, will be recorded in the years 2024 and 2025, since the investments will materialize in those years, indicated Alberto Alesi, director of Manpower México.

He detailed that this year will close with the creation of between 650,000 and 750,000 jobs, below what was reported in 2022, when about 800,000 formal positions were recorded.

“We have not received relocation and nearshoring in its entirety in 2023, the investments will materialize in 2024 and 2025,” he stressed.

He pointed out that many of the investments have not yet been made, since the plants have not even been built.

Regarding the 750 thousand jobs that would be created this year, in the best of cases it would be a figure very similar to the 753 thousand positions reported the previous year, according to data published by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

The manager reported that for the last three months of 2023 they anticipate the generation of between 250,000 and 300,000 new jobs.

He detailed that the seasonally adjusted Net Employment Trend for the third quarter of 2023 is 36%, that is, the percentage of employers who intend to hire personnel (48%) versus those who plan to cut their workforce (12% ).

This rate is equal to that reported in the July-September period of this year, but 4 points lower than the 40% observed in the fourth quarter of 2022.

MORE PUBLIC WORKS

He commented that next year a rebound in employment in the construction sector is expected, especially due to the large Government works to which resources will be allocated, such as the Mayan Train.

“The public works budget is going to generate more hiring of people and that permeates because the contractors will require personnel, we have seen it with the Maya Train, Dos Bocas, that there has been an increase in specialized personnel for this type of works,” he commented. Alesi.

In contrast, he said, there will be a reduction in hiring intentions in other sectors, such as health, because there will be less budget.
