Joe Biden wants to block a rail freight strike

The lower house passed a law on Wednesday banning unions from paralyzing freight trains.

Anxious to avoid further disruptions in industrial supply chains, Joe Biden, claimed best friend of the unions, reluctantly supports the exceptional intervention of the legislator in a social conflict which has lasted for more than two years. Many of the Democratic leaders of the Congress line up with the position of the White House. The law will impose on 115,000 employees of companies like Union Pacific, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, CSX, Norfolk Southern or Kansas City Southern the terms of a new contract. In other words, it is a question of preventing a strike, via Congress.

The new working conditions provide for salary increases of 24% spread over five years, as well as an annual bonus of 1000 dollars per year, paid for five years. The new contract also grants an additional paid day off.
