7:30 a.m.: “We can laugh at Putin, Russian troops who can’t take our cities, but we can’t have fun like before the war”
From the first day of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, local radio Lvivska Khvylya replaced its entertainment programs with a permanent special edition to inform its tens of thousands of listeners in the west of that country about the ongoing conflict.
Between two Ukrainian rock or patriotic hits, Volodymyr Melnyk and his friend Andryi Antoniuk, 41, comment on the news with humor on this 30-year-old local radio station, one of the first created after the collapse of the USSR.
“In times of war, we need to convey the positive, we can laugh at Putin, at the Russian troops who can’t take our cities, but we can’t have fun like before the war”, underlines Volodymyr Melnyk , who has worked for this Ukrainian radio station for eight years.
