Cincinnati. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, the NFL’s highest-paid quarterback, will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ligament in his right wrist, the team announced.

Burrow exited in the second quarter of the Bengals’ 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. A few seconds earlier, the 26-year-old had thrown a four-yard touchdown pass to Joe Mixon, giving his team a 10-7 lead, which proved fleeting.

Yesterday, the quarterback commented that the injury probably occurred on the previous play when he fell with all his weight on his wrist, after a hit from Jadeveon Clowney. He added that he did not know the severity of the impact until he watched the replay on a video provided by members of the staff.

I felt my wrist pop mid-pass. I tried to continue, but I couldn’t, and today I received the news. “I had a feeling how bad it was even before I got the official news,” said the Ohio State University graduate, who completed 11 of 17 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in the meeting.

Burrow’s insistence that the injury occurred from that hit comes at a time when the NFL warned that it will investigate why the quarterback was not included in the injury report before the game, sources revealed to the AP agency.

The Bengals had posted a video on social media, which they later deleted, which apparently showed the player in a flexible splint. However, Burrow indicated that it was a compression sleeve.

After leaving the game, the quarterback tried to take a practice throw on the sideline, but the ball slipped out of his hand and he then writhed and winced in pain.
