Dubai: Sachin Tendulkar is called the God of Cricket. Many big records of world cricket in batting are still registered in the name of the Master Blaster. Even though it has been more than a decade since Sachin retired, no one has even come close to his records. Meanwhile, Australia’s former world champion captain and Sachin Tendulkar’s contemporary Ricky Ponting has made a big claim. If Ponting is to be believed, England’s Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most runs in Test cricket. Ricky Ponting said that if Joe Root maintains his hunger for runs and consistency in scoring runs for the next four years, then he can surpass Sachin Tendulkar in Test cricket. Root became the seventh batsman to cross the 12000 run mark in Test cricket, he has scored 12027 runs in 143 Tests so far. Tendulkar has 15921 runs in 200 Tests. Ponting has scored 13378 runs in 168 Tests and is second on the list.

Ponting said in the ICC review, ‘Root can break this record. He is 33 years old and is just behind 3000 runs. It remains to be seen how many Tests he plays. If he plays 10 to 14 Tests a year and scores 800 to 1000 runs every year, he can reach there in three to four years. If his hunger for runs remains intact, he can do this.’
