Johnny Depp returns to cinema in France, for Maïwenn and thanks to Netflix

by time news

Johnny Depp had denounced the “boycott d’Hollywood” during the defamation lawsuit brought by Amber Heard. It is in France that the actor will find the cinema in a film in costumes by Maïwenn Le Besco, where he will play King Louis XV, reports Bloomberg. And it is Netflix which, by buying the broadcasting rights, will help its producers to finance it, says the American media.

Under the deal, the streaming platform got “the rights to broadcast the film in France 15 months after its theatrical release” but does not own them outside the country. Netflix will not be “not otherwise involved in the making” of “the favourite”, a costume film directed by Maïwenn Le Besco. The director of “Police” et “My king” will play Madame du Barry herself, the “famous mistress of Louis XV” and last favorite of the king, guillotined during the Revolution.

“It will be the first time that Johnny Depp will play in French”, relief Bloomberg. It’s also his “first film role since Hollywood turned its back on him” after his resounding trial for domestic violence. He “obtained $10 million in damages” in June while his ex-wife Amber Heard got $2 million.
