Washington,

The world’s largest rainforest, the Amazon, is found in 9 countries in South America: Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. This rainforest is home to about 500 species of tribes, including many rare species of trees and creatures.

In this case, statistics show that 20 percent of the Amazon rainforest has been destroyed by recent mining activities and wildfires. Researchers also say that 1.5 acres of Amazon rainforest are being destroyed every second.

There have also been allegations that Brazilian President Jair Polsonaro is intensifying Brazil’s deforestation for the country’s economic benefit at a rate not seen in the last 30 years. Indigenous peoples of Brazil have occasionally been involved in struggles against the state.

US President Joe Biden and Brazilian President Jair Bolsanaro attended the summit in Los Angeles. During the meeting, the two presidents agreed to work together to prevent further deforestation of the Amazon. According to the White House, the two leaders also discussed the war in Ukraine.
