Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan held a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Shukri in Cairo. The primary agenda of the two ministers was the Israel-Palestine tension. Minister Fidan announced that there were approximately 300 dual national Turkish citizens in Gaza and 30 people were evacuated.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Samih Shukri spoke at a joint press conference held with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in the capital Cairo, as part of his official contacts.

Recalling Israel’s attacks in the Gaza Strip, Shukri said, “The conflict’s shift towards military operations arose because the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people could not be achieved.”

Stating that Turkey-Egypt relations have deep roots in various aspects between the two peoples, Shukri said, “We share a common vision with Turkey on the importance of working to overcome the serious humanitarian impacts on the Palestinians.”

Shukri stated that they discussed many issues of common importance in his meeting with Fidan and that his country “continues to work to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.”

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who started his statement with evaluations about the events between Israel and Palestine, said, “The two-state solution is the only valid solution.” Minister Fidan said, “Of course, we reject and condemn attacks targeting innocent civilians and civilian casualties.”

Noting that what has happened in Palestine since October 7 are unprecedented developments, Hakan Fidan said, “Of course, we reject and condemn the attacks targeting innocent civilians and the loss of civilian lives.”

Minister Fidan emphasized that the creation of a sovereign, independent and geographically integrated Palestinian state within the 1967 borders of Turkey and Egypt, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only valid solution for the two-state solution.

Stating that all civilian casualties should be prevented from any side, Fidan said, “I would like to emphasize once again that we invite Israel to adhere to international law and humanitarian values.”

Fidan said that they do not approve of the policy of displacing Palestinians in Gaza and deporting them to Egypt, that they oppose this to the end and that they stand by Egypt on this issue.

Foreign Minister Fidan noted that the aid sent by Turkey to Gaza will continue to arrive.

30 people were evacuated

Regarding the issue of evacuations from Gaza, Fidan emphasized that they are in close cooperation with the Egyptian and Israeli authorities on this issue.

Fidan said, “There are approximately 300 dual national Turkish citizens inside. We managed to evacuate 30 of them, but since the border gate is closed, our work is currently continuing. Their list was given to the relevant authorities on both the Israeli and Egyptian sides. “Our work continues on this issue,” he said.

Stating that they stand on the same page with Egypt on the Palestine issue, Minister Fidan said, “The Palestine issue is an issue that will be resolved with the establishment of the Palestinian state. Israel’s peace should be not only with Arab countries, but mainly with the Palestinians. We think the same as Egypt on this issue. “It is not possible for a permanent peace to come to the region without making peace with the Palestinians,” he said.

‘Regional developments, bilateral relations and cooperation issues’ were discussed

A written statement was also made by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Hakan Fidan’s visit.

It was stated in the statement that Shukri met with Minister Fidan in the capital Cairo within the scope of his official contacts, and that in addition to bilateral relations, cooperation in the field of economy and development of investments in the country were discussed during the meeting.

It was noted that during the meeting, where regional developments were evaluated, the protection of Palestinian rights, efforts to stop the tension in the region and the continuation of coordination regarding the developments in the Gaza Strip were also discussed.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during his visit to Cairo.
