Jordan announces its readiness to provide electricity to Syria immediately

During a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Al-Shaibani, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi stressed “the importance of preserving the unity and sovereignty of Syria,” stressing “his country’s readiness to provide electricity to Syria immediately.”

Al-Safadi said: “We will stand alongside our Syrian brothers, and our discussions reflected a common interest in building cooperation relations that reflect the historical relations between the two countries.”

He added, “The Syrian Interim Administration faces great challenges and must be given time to confront them. Jordan has made every effort to provide a decent life for the displaced Syrians on Jordanian territory.”

Al-Safadi said: “The stability and security of Syria is stability for Jordan and its security. Building Syria is a Jordanian interest, and the legacy that the new Syrian administration carries is not easy.”

He added: “Joint committees will be formed with the Syrian side concerned with the security and energy files and others.”

Al-Safadi continued: “The Syrian people deserve a free homeland after years of suffering, and the stability of Syria means the stability of Jordan, and the security of Syria reflects positively on Jordan.”

He added: “The Syrian people deserve a free homeland after years of suffering, and joint committees will be formed with the Syrian side concerned with security, energy, and other fields.”

He stressed “Jordan’s readiness to provide electricity to Syria immediately.”

In turn, the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Syrian Interim Government, Asaad Al-Shaibani, said, “The Assad regime has left a legacy of problems with its people and neighboring countries, and Syria will erase them from the memory of the Syrians and neighboring countries.”

Al-Shaibani said: “Syria’s new identity will be based on achieving the sovereignty of the people and frank dialogue with neighboring countries.”

He added: “Despite the demise of the Assad regime, sanctions are still targeting the Syrian people, hindering their recovery.”

He said: “The US Treasury’s decision regarding sanctions represents a breakthrough, but we are waiting for the sanctions to be completely lifted, and we are keen to conduct more visits to Arab countries to confirm that Syria has regained its effective role.”

He added: “We are conducting visits to answer any questions about the new Syrian state, and I invite Jordanian companies to invest in Syria.”

He said: “We are pleased to host Jordanians as guests and tourists in their second country, Syria, and we are working to remove the sanctions imposed on Syria that hinder any partnership that reflects positively on our people, and we have a real opportunity to achieve sustainable cooperation with Jordan in a way that reflects positively on both countries.”

Al-Shaibani arrived in Jordan, on Tuesday, on his first official visit to this country, as part of a regional tour that he began in Saudi Arabia, then Qatar, then the Emirates, accompanied by Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra and the head of General Intelligence, Anas Khattab.

Qatar and Turkey will provide Syria with two ships to generate electricity

The Director General of the Syrian Electricity Transmission and Distribution Corporation, Khaled Abu Day, told SANA, “Damascus is about to receive two electricity-generating ships from Qatar and Turkey with the aim of enhancing its limited energy supplies.”

He added: “The two ships will generate 800 megawatts, which is equivalent to half of what is currently generated in Syria, which will contribute to increasing the citizen’s share of electricity by approximately 50 percent.”

He said: “The extent of the damage to the generation and transmission stations and electrical connection lines during the period of the former regime is very large, and we are seeking to rehabilitate the generation stations and transmission lines so that the network is capable of transmitting energy.”

A seventh Saudi relief plane to Syria

Today, Tuesday, the seventh Saudi relief plane left King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, heading to Syria, as part of an air bridge operated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.

According to the Saudi News Agency “SPA”, “The plane heading to Damascus International Airport carries food, medical and shelter aid, to contribute to alleviating the effects of the difficult conditions that the Syrian people are currently going through.”

Earlier, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center announced “the entry of the first Saudi land bridge convoys into Syria through the Jordanian Jaber border crossing, as part of the Saudi aid campaign to Syria.”
