The Jordanian king will undergo surgery at a hospital in Frankfurt, Germany with a specialist, after suffering from a “disc herniation”, the Jordanian royal ministry said. “The king’s pains have intensified in recent days and required urgent surgery”

Jordanian King Abdullah II will fly to Germany for surgery on his spine, Jordanian officials said on Saturday.

The 60-year-old king is reportedly suffering from pain in his spine that now requires “urgent” intervention. Abdullah II suffers from a “herniated disc”, according to the royal decree.

He is expected to arrive in Germany today (Sunday) and undergo surgery at a “special hospital” in the city of Frankfurt. According to officials, the pain in the spine originated due to “his years of parachuting during his service in the special forces”. However, the pain has intensified recently, leading to immediate surgery, delivered from the Royal Court.

After the procedure, Abdullah will stay in Germany for a week to rest before returning to Jordan. The German government did not comment on the reports. Abdullah was appointed king of Jordan in 1999 after the death of his father, Hussein.
