Jorge Vilda, coach of the Spanish women’s soccer team, has followed in the footsteps of Luis de la Fuente. The coach, world champion with the National Team in the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, has condemned the “improper behavior” of Luis Rubiales, which has tarnished a “deserved victory.”

“The events that have taken place since Spain won the World Cup for the first time in its history until today have been nonsense and have generated an unprecedented situation, tarnishing a deserved victory,” begins a text shared by the EFE news agency.

And he continues: “I deeply regret that the victory of Spanish women’s football has been harmed by the inappropriate behavior that our until now leader, Luis Rubiales, has carried out and that he has recognized”.

“It is unacceptable. There is no doubt. And it does not reflect at all the principles and values that I defend in my life, in sport and in football,” says Vilda, who, like De la Fuente, applauded Rubiales’ speech in the Assembly.

“I condemn without palliatives any macho attitude”

The coach expresses himself emphatically: “I condemn without palliatives any macho attitude, far from an advanced and developed society.”

“A clearly undesirable climate has been generated, far from what should have been a great celebration of Spanish and women’s sport. To this end, I have transferred the content of these statements to the current president of the RFEF and until now top leader Luis Rubiales”, says Vilda.

It reiterates its “unwavering commitment”

And he values his work: “It has always been aimed at achieving sporting success, but also at promoting initiatives that foster inclusion, respect and equity. The successes of the lower categories, and the World Cup, are a reflection of the work that It has been carried out by the Federation, which unquestionably supports women’s sport”.

“I reiterate my unwavering commitment to promoting a sport that is a model of equality and respect in our society,” says Vilda.

FIFA, for its part, has provisionally suspended Luis Rubiales, still president of the RFEF. In his place, on an interim basis, the Federation has appointed Pedro Rocha.

In addition, the RFEF has shared a statement, later deleted, in which it strongly charges against Jenni Hermoso, whom it accuses of lying and of “having been abducted” by the FutPro union.
