Democracy is enveloped in mourning after the sudden death of the president of the Electoral Court, Jose Arocena, as a result of a fulminant heart attack. Arocena, a graduate in Philosophy and a doctor in Sociology from the School of Higher Studies in Social Sciences in Paris, had played this prominent role for the last 13 years.
The fateful outcome took place during a session of ministers of the Electoral Court. Arocena, while performing her duties, began to experience discomfort. Despite quick efforts to call the medical emergency, the doctors present were unable to revive him, according to statements from close sources.
In addition to his institutional responsibilities, Arocena was a prolific author with several publications to his name.
