Josh Jacobs Remains on Packers Roster Amid Ongoing NFL Investigation

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs remains on the team’s roster as the NFL reviews new allegations as part of its ongoing investigation following the public release of police case files detailing three previously unreported allegations of domestic abuse.

Police Files Reveal Past Allegations Against Jacobs

The Hobart-Lawrence Police Department released its investigative case files following open-records requests after a May 23, 2026, domestic incident at Jacobs’ home involving his then-girlfriend. In September, Jacobs pleaded no contest in Brown County Circuit Court to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property, receiving a $1,000 fine and agreeing to a deferred judgment agreement on the property damage charge.

The newly publicized police file incorporates summaries of telephone interviews with three additional women describing altercations allegedly occurring in 2021 and 2022. The accounts include allegations of physical contact, thrown property, and restricted movement. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed that the league is reviewing the new disclosures as part of its ongoing, open investigation under the personal conduct policy.

Files from June of 2026 show that a woman told police about a past confrontation involving herself and Josh Jacobs that took place in January of 2022 under similar circumstances. Her account states that Jacobs struck her during a dispute and ruined her phone by tossing it into a swimming pool. The case records from the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department also incorporate a third woman’s claims that during an alleged May 2022 incident, Jacobs seized her by the head and neck, pulled her along, left scratches on her chest, and took her mobile phone. Another woman contacted police after Jacobs’ arrest to say she had experienced a similar incident with him around 2023, which she later stated actually occurred on January 5, 2022, after spending around 11 hours at his home. Past responding officers found no proof supporting her claims at the time and informed her that the situation could not be treated as domestic violence because the pair were not involved in a romantic relationship. Further documentation showed that Jacobs informed officers he requested the woman depart multiple times prior to lifting her by the waist and escorting her out of his residence.

Attorneys Issue Defense Response

Attorneys David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac III issued a joint statement sharply criticizing the police department’s release of the material and labeling the disclosures character assassination.

Josh is answering them in detail because of the character assassination that is occurring, unfairly threatening his career.

The defense team asserted that Josh Jacobs denies all three accounts and has a substantial body of tangible evidence to back up his assertions, noting that law enforcement took no formal action on the older, uncorroborated allegations. According to the attorneys, the Brown County District Attorney’s office had these uncorroborated, old, and previously unreported allegations for months, conducted an exhaustive investigation, and determined that only two misdemeanor charges were warranted.

Packers Address Team Standing

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the media regarding Jacobs’ status with the franchise following the team’s victory over the Carolina Panthers.

LaFleur stated, But I would anticipate him being a member of us moving forward. That’s really all I have to speak on. The Green Bay Packers organization declined to comment on the matter, while general manager Brian Gutekunst and team President and CEO Ed Policy oversee roster composition.

In his two games since returning, Jacobs has rushed 32 times for 75 yards and a touchdown, averaging 2.3 yards per carry, alongside 11 catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver. LaFleur confirmed he spoke privately with Jacobs concerning his touchdown celebration against Carolina, which drew public scrutiny.

Jacobs explained that his gesture was modeled after a gospel song titled Break Every Chain and featured wide receiver Savion Williams unlocking his arms at the end of the choreography.
