Journalist Pedro Cruz died this Sunday, April 21, at the age of 53. The information was provided by SIC and TSF, the radio where he was executive director and to whom the family confirmed the death.
According to Lusa, the journalist died of lung cancer.
Born in Póvoa de Varzim, Pedro Cruz started working at the age of 21 and worked for several media outlets such as TSF, SIC and the News Diary. He was currently managing Global Media.
For 14 years he was coordinator of the SIC newsroom in Porto, details the television station, and also played the role of deputy director of information. In 2021 he went to TSF, where he was executive director between September 2021 and September 2023.
In the first weeks of the Russian invasion, Pedro Cruz was a special envoy for the TSF and DN in Ukraine.

Nuno Melo, leader of the CDS-PP, began his closing speech paying tribute to Pedro Cruz. He also said that social communication is a “fundamental part of democratic regimes”.

On his X profile (formerly Twitter), Luís Montenegro left words of condolence about Pedro Cruz’s death. “Portuguese journalism loses one of its references. I extend my condolences to the family, friends and professional colleagues of journalist Pedro Cruz”, wrote the prime minister.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the 31st Congress of the CDS-PP, in Viseu, also lamented the death of the “great journalist”, who he considered to be “a professional by vocation”.
The President of the Republic also lamented the death of journalist Pedro Cruz, considering that he was a reference and “elevated the class” throughout his professional life. In use official, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “regrets the death of Pedro Cruz, a friend and renowned journalist who raised his class so much throughout his professional life, and offers his family, at this difficult time, our deepest condolences.” “Unable to be present at the funeral tomorrow, the President of the Republic will be represented by the President of the Municipal Council of Póvoa de Varzim”, the note from the Belém palace also states.
