Journalists will discuss Spanish in Morocco, Miami and Cádiz

In a press conference, the president of the Association, Diego Calvo, accompanied by representatives of the Free Zone, the Junta de Andalucía, the Cádiz Provincial Council and the Cajasol Foundation, detailed the content of these four conferences that will focus on such as cross-border journalism, the use of Spanish in the media, the presence of Spanish in the United States and the rise of this language in that country.

“We want to underline the importance of journalism as a vehicle and disseminator of the Spanish language in the Spanish-speaking community around the world,” Calvo explained.

The conference will begin tomorrow, March 14, in Tetouan in the morning and in Tangier in the afternoon, where the conference “Cross-border journalism in the north of Morocco and commercial relations between the port cities of Cádiz and Tangier” will take place.

They will analyze the presence of Spanish in Morocco, the decisive role of the Cervantes Institute and the possibilities of growth of this language with the participation of prominent journalists and institutional representatives of both countries, such as the journalist Zoubaida El Fathi, editor-in-chief of the news in Spanish of the first Moroccan chain, or Younes Mahjed, president of the National Press Council of Morocco.

Spanish representatives such as Miguel Ángel Noceda, president of the Federation of Associations of Spanish Journalists (FAPE), or the journalist and writer Juan José Téllez will also attend Morocco.

The second event, “Conferences on journalism in Spanish”, will be held in Cádiz on March 23 and 24, a week before the Language Congress, to bring together prominent Hispanic journalists and writers.

They will be, among others, Lydia Cacho, Bieto Rubido, Fernando Garea, Yoli Sánchez, Ali Lmrabet, Santiago Rocangliolo, Arcadi Espada, Enric González, Soledad Gallego-Díaz, Juan Cruz, Arsenio Escolar, José María Izquierdo or Ricardo Trotti, the latter as Director of the Inter-American Press Association.

The third day, called “United States Colloquium: Spanish wakes up”, will be held during the Language Congress in Cádiz and will bring together two Spanish journalists closely linked to the culture of the United States such as Guillermo Fesser and Paco Reyero.

The last of the appointments will be in April with “Conferences on journalism in Spanish in the United States”, which will address the projection of Spanish in that country, such as the fact that in 2060 it will already be the second Spanish-speaking country in the world, only behind from Mexico.

In this conference, which will be held in Miami, practicing journalists such as Cynthia Hudson (CNN), Sonia Osorio (the new herald), Monica Lozano (The opinion of Los Angeles), David Peña (National Association of Hispanic Journalists) or Alejandro Alvarado (Florida International University), in addition to a later table with directors of various media installed in Miami.
