Today is the 53rd birth anniversary of Sajib Wazed Joy, the mastermind behind Digital Bangladesh, the architect of the revolution in the country’s information and communication technology sector.
Sajib Wazed Joy was born on July 27, 1971 during the liberation war. He is the father-in-law of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and nuclear scientist Dr. Proud son of MA Wazed Mia. After the independence of the country, he was named Nana Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sajib Wazed Joy, a hardworking, talented and clean living computer scientist, is working to fulfill the dreams of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his privileged daughter Sheikh Hasina and to establish Digital Bangladesh.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established Geo-satellite Center in Betbunia in 1975. In continuation of that, Sajib Wazed Jai Bangabandhu, father of the nation’s son-in-law, sent the satellite into space.
Joy was in Germany with her mother and father when Bangabandhu’s family was killed on August 15, 1975. Later he left for political asylum with his mother in India. He spent his childhood and adolescence in India. After studying at St. Joseph’s College, Nainital there, he graduated in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Arlington, USA. He later earned a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University. Sajib Wazed Joy married Christine Overmyer on 26 October 2002.
Although interested in politics while studying, Joy joined active politics in 2010. On February 25 of that year, he was given the position of primary member of Pitrbhumi Rangpur district Awami League, through which he officially entered politics. Joy is currently serving as Information and Communication Technology Advisor (Unpaid) to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In 2007, Joy was selected as a Global Leader of the World by the World Economic Forum.
He brought the issue of building digital Bangladesh in the manifesto of Awami League in the national election of 29 December 2008. Behind the scenes, this information technology expert revolutionized the information technology in the entire country by the side of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. At present, apart from the party genre, Joy is playing an important role in the development of information technology and young entrepreneurs by participating in various programs related to information technology, politics, social, economic, education.
In particular, he is taking various programs and steps in devoting himself to the path of building digital Bangladesh by energizing the youth of the country with patriotism. Currently, Sajib Wazed Joy is staying outside the country most of the time, but he expresses his opinion on Facebook about the politics of Bangladesh and various programs taken by the government. His name has already spread as the architect of Digital Bangladesh.
According to those related to the country’s ICT sector, Sajeeb Wazed Joy has been able to successfully lead the rapid development of the country’s ICT sector due to the combination of educational qualification and professional work experience.
Sajib Wazed Joy started working with the goal of bringing the Internet to people’s doorsteps as the initial step of implementing Digital Bangladesh. Already, internet has been extended to remote areas like Char or hilly areas as well as Union level.
