JTC employees admit to being responsible for illegal felling of trees in Kranji

by time news
A JTC Corporation official and his former manager have admitted to being responsible for illegal felling of trees in a forest area in Kranji.

Forest areas had to be cleared to carry out development work on the land.

Development work in the area has already been delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

They gave the permission to cut the trees because they felt that waiting for permission from the National Parks Corporation to cut the trees would further drag out the situation.

362 trees with a girth of more than one meter were felled.

In this regard, 47-year-old Chong Pui Chih, the former deputy director of the company, admitted to 3 charges. 4 more charges are considered.

Neo Jek Lin, 44, who worked under Chong, pleaded guilty to four charges. A further 4 charges will be considered at sentencing.

A senior project manager at JTC, he is currently on suspension.

Both will be sentenced at a later date.
