Juan Ramiro Robledo pointed out that electoral reform would also be delayed because it must be discussed by three different commissions.

“The electoral commission is assigned to three commissions; us, the governorship commission and the political-electoral commission, so I can’t decide on that, a meeting of the three commissions is needed and we are going to vote on it. It’s with about 100 people, so I can’t do it. I find it very easy,” he explained.

In the fourth point of the draft agreement, which must be approved or rejected this Thursday, it is stated: “The draft opinions in line with the initiative of the President of the Republic on electoral matters are now being submitted to the Electoral and Political Reform Commissions of the Government and the Population, for the purposes of the respective agreements that allow a joint meeting.”

“I propose to launch all projects on August 1 and circulate all draft decrees of no less than two, except the electoral and the judicial, but all the others have already been discussed and analyzed. Therefore, on August 1, I propose that we declare ourselves to be in session for the next days in a permanent session and, to the extent that we agree on what we can approve, we will do so,” he reiterated.

Juan Ramiro Robledo expressed confidence that reforms in social affairs and rights would be easily approved in the short term: “Some will not be discussed much and I believe they will be able to come out very soon as they are stated in the Constitution. He acknowledged there would be wide-ranging discussions on other issues, including the railways, Republican austerity, preventive detention for tax cheats and the National Guard.

“Then we will see how many people we can support and we are going to address that in each session starting August 1,” he said.
