The famous British heavy metal band Judas Priest performed at the Masters of Rock festival in Vizovice in the Zlín region on Friday evening. She performed hits as well as songs from her new album Invincible Shield, which she released in March. The beginning of the concert was marked by a storm, due to a burst of clouds and lightning, the organizers were forced to interrupt the performance for several minutes. Still, the packed area in front of the main stage watched him.

Judas Priest opened the show with Panic Attack from their latest and 19th studio album. The title song of Invincible Shield was also heard from it. But the soaked audience was also treated to older hits.

Among them were the songs You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’, Turbo Lover or Painkiller, and in the encores, Electric Eye and Hell Bent for Leather, before which singer Rob Halford traditionally arrived from the backstage to the stage on a motorcycle.

Not long after the start of the performance, the group’s most famous composition Breaking the Law from the award-winning album British Steel, released in 1980, was also played. On Friday, Judas Priest also performed the compositions Rapid Fire and Living After Midnight from it, which closed the concert at Masters of Rock. At its conclusion, it started to rain again over the grounds of the Vizovice liquor store, where the event is taking place.

Charismatic Rob Halford, who in his time co-created metal fashion with typical leather clothing, chains and metal studs, as a natural leader even at the age of 72 controlled the events on stage. He managed to sing most of the parts himself, he involved the audience in singing practically only in the choruses of some songs. During the previous concert two years ago at the same place, he got help from the audience more often. Other members of the lineup are bassist Ian Hill, drummer Scott Travis and guitarists Richie Faulkner with Glenn Tipton. However, he is fighting Parkinson’s disease, so in 2018 Andy Sneap replaced him at the concerts.

The narrative scene was dominated by a special cross suspended under the ceiling of the stage, which is one of the band’s hallmarks. During some songs, however, the mechanism lowered it just above the musicians’ heads. Behind them, clips ran on a large-screen screen, alternating with motifs of the British flag or a flaming fire.

Despite the bad weather, the audience clearly enjoyed the Judas Priest concert. The band’s music, which has been active on the metal scene for more than 50 years, appeals to people of all ages. For example, 36-year-old Karolína Pilařová from Kroměříž did not miss Friday’s performance, who came with a friend. She left soaked but satisfied. He particularly appreciates Halford’s performance. “He gave it his all,” she says.
