A judge ruled this Tuesday that the former president of the United States Donald Trump lied to inflate the value of the Trump Organization’s assets with the aim of reducing their tax bill in the framework of a civil lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Judge Arthur Engoron of the New York state court in Manhattan has thus responded to James’ request, who asked at the end of August to declare those involved in the plot responsible, among whom are the magnate’s two sons, Donald Trump JR. y Ericas well as former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg.

Specifically, Engoron has specified in its ruling that Trump made false statements about real estate assets to insurers and banks. According to the New York Prosecutor’s Office, Trump inflated his personal net worth to financial institutions by $3.6 billion (about €3.3 billion).

The judge has canceled all of the defendants’ businesses in New Yorkwhile it has also given a period of ten days for those involved to communicate at least three potential “independent” companies that can handle the dissolution.

Likewise, he has denied a request from Trump to delay the trial, which is finally expected to begin on Monday, and has fined his lawyers $7,500 for this reason, according to the US network NBC News.

The origin of the lawsuit dates back to March 2019, when former Trump Organization lawyer Michael Cohen’s testimony before the US Congress raised questions about the company’s “potentially fraudulent financial status.”
