In case of non-compliance, Trump could be punished. Today, during the hearing that imposed the gag order, the former president’s defense criticized the measure, considered “fundamentally unethical.” For lawyers, the restrictions are just one way for President Joe Biden and the Justice Department to hinder Trump’s 2024 campaign.

The former president had criticized prosecutors and even the judge responsible for the case. Judge Tanya Chutkan, a frequent target of these attacks, warned Trump that comments he and his lawyers make from now on could harm the case. “Mr. Trump (…) faces four criminal charges. He does not have the right to say and do whatever he wants,” Chutkan said.

It’s not a question of whether you like or dislike the language Mr. Trump uses. This is language that represents a danger to the administration of Justice. His presidential candidacy does not give him carte blanche to defame public officials who are just doing their jobs.
