Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada will remain in prison and without the right to bail while his judicial process advances.

This was announced by Judge Anne Berton, based in El Paso, Texaswho determined that:

“There are no conditions or combinations of conditions of release that reasonably ensure the defendant’s appearance or the safety of the community.”

Therefore, it was ordered that “El Mayo” be transferred to a prison where it is guaranteed that the historical co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel is in isolation.

Last week, before a Federal Court in El Paso, Texas, the 76-year-old drug lord pleaded not guilty to the charges against himsuch as trafficking and conspiracy to traffic drugs to the United States, and a new hearing was scheduled for August 1 to hear the charges against him.

Zambada was arrested last week along with Joaquin Guzman Lopez in El Paso, Texas, after arriving on a plane from Mexico –Mexican authorities do not know where he left from–, after which, the man also known as the “Lord of the Mountain” remains in Texas, while his godson was transferred to Chicago, where the case against him and the rest of his brothers for manufacturing, conspiracy and trafficking fentanyl to the US, among other charges, is underway.

About the case, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has requested the US Government to provide a detailed report on his arrest, since, at the moment, he does not have “reliable information” on the subject.

In his morning press conference on July 30, the head of the Executive reaffirmed that the US Government He had conversations with “Güero” Guzmán to negotiate his surrender, in addition to questioning him that:

“They did not know that he was going to turn himself in as well or that Mr. Zambada was on the plane (…) we want, and the FGR and SRE are doing so, to find out more about this, where they boarded the plane, what type of plane, why if the agreement was with one, two arrived.”

And although, 112 hours after the arrest of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel was announced, he admits that he still does not know the details, He made use of the statements of “El Mayo” Zambada’s lawyerwho claims that his client was “kidnapped” by “El Chapo’s” son, to insist to the US that:

“We need to know all of this, where, who, we need to know all of this. Yes, they participated in Mexican territory, agents of the United States.”
