(ANSA) – MILAN, JULY 31 – The investigating judge of Milan Luca Milani has validated the emergency precautionary seizure of over 121 million euros for tax fraud against Amazon Italia Transport srl, for the case of the so-called “labour reservoirs”, which was carried out on July 23 by the Financial and Economic Police Unit of the Gdf in the investigation by prosecutors Paolo Storari and Valentina Mondovì. From the investigations, one of the numerous inquiries by the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office into the logistics sector and the “illegal supply of labour”, it emerged that the couriers, formally employees of cooperatives or “filter” companies, were monitored during deliveries, from the storage facilities to the customer, through a software-algorithm created and used by Amazon. An alleged “system” that, also due to the rates it was able to charge on the market, would have been “to the full advantage of Amazon Italia Transport”. And with “very significant losses for the treasury and situations of labour exploitation”. Judge Milani has also set a hearing for October 31 to discuss the request by the prosecutors for a one-year ban on advertising its own services and goods, against the same company, the Italian subsidiary of the US e-commerce giant. The request only concerns advertising for Amazon Italia Transport, not the entire group. In similar investigations, such as those that led to seizures of tens of millions of euros against other large logistics and transport companies such as Gxo and Ups, prosecutor Storari had already requested bans with a stop to advertising. For the Gxo case, the hearing was set by investigating judge Milani for October 31. As for Ups, however, the judge has not yet decided on the request. There have been several postponement hearings, also because Ups has already paid the contested sums to the tax authorities (as have many other companies for a total of over half a billion euros) and has intervened on the corporate front to eliminate the aspects reported by investigators in the investigations.
