“El Chino” Flores reiterated that talking about the FMLN, after five years out of power, serves to create smokescreens.

Under the philosophy of “Good Living,” the FMLN presidential administrations became the “family job factory,” where officials of all ranks, activists and leaders placed their relatives and embezzled state coffers in order to increase their assets, illegally enriching not only themselves, but also their entire family.

Many of these cases, such as that of the two former presidents, fugitives from Salvadoran justice and asylum seekers in Nicaragua, former ministers, former deputies, former heads of autonomous organizations, have already been sentenced or are undergoing the respective judicial proceedings.

The newly appointed Secretary General of the FMLN, Manuel Flores, accepts that these acts of corruption led the population to give the results obtained in the last electoral contest.

“We have not been in government for more than five years, and we do not even have any congressmen or mayors,” he said.
