Another strange event occurred at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Days after the artistic gymnastics final, Romanian Ana Barbosu regained the bronze medal she won on the sports stage, which had been taken from her by American Jordan Chiles.

The Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu won the bronze medal on floor this Saturday, five days after the competition, after the appeal filed with the CAS against the review of the score of the American Jordan Chiles was upheld.

Barbosu had achieved the third-best score in the floor final (13.700), and thus the bronze medal, behind Brazilian Rebeca Andrade (14.166) and American Simone Biles (14.133).
However, Jordan Chiles, the other American finalist, filed a complaint regarding her original score of 13.666, which had placed her in fifth position. The judges addressed her demand and awarded her a 13.766, improving her by two spots. Barbosu missed the podium.
The Romanian team appealed to the Court of Arbitration, considering that Chiles’ complaint was submitted beyond the one-minute deadline allowed by international federation regulations (FIG); specifically, at one minute and four seconds.

Barbosu was celebrating her bronze medal when the new score of Chiles appeared on the scoreboard. Upon seeing it, the Romanian dropped her flag and began to cry.
In any case, the CAS warns that it is the FIG that must reassign the medals “according to the decision made”.
The legendary gymnast Nadia Comaneci expressed her outrage at the incident that occurred in the final.
“I can’t believe we are playing with the mental health and emotions of the athletes like this. Let’s protect them,” Comaneci requested, a long-time resident of the United States but always very attentive to support the gymnasts from her country.
