Romane Dicko regains her throne. Third in 2023, second in 2022, and two years after her first gold medal in the event, the Frenchwoman won the second Paris Grand Slam of her career. She thus confirms her domination in the + 78 kg category, and further justifies her selection for the next Olympic Games in Paris.
The world champion and four-time European champion had no difficulty in winning this premier tournament. After an ippon in less than a minute in the second round against the Tunisian Zeineb Troudi, Romane Dicko took advantage of the penalties inflicted on the Venezuelan Amarantha Urdaneta to advance to the semi-final, where she found her compatriot Léa Fontaine.
A quick finale
The scenario was similar. Unable to find solutions to disrupt the Tokyo Olympic champion, the Reunionese suffered three shidos, and was declared the loser after a little more than two minutes of combat. However, she won her fight for bronze in just 20 seconds against Turkey’s Hilal Ozturk.
In the final, Romane Dicko faced another Turk, the experienced Kayra Ozdemir. A fight completed in forty seconds, after having knocked down and then pinned his opponent to the ground, winning by ippon.
This gold medal is the fifth for the French team in this Paris Grand Slam, after those of Luka Mkheidze, Shirine Boukli, Faiza Mokdar and Clarisse Agbégnénou. In total, even before Teddy Riner’s final, which will bring an additional medal anyway, the Blues have already won ten podiums. A beautiful harvest.
