The economist Julen Bollain highlighted in laSexta Xplica that “40% of waiters in Spain earn less than 1,200 euros a month”, a precarious reality that hits young people squarely.

“There was also talk of the good intention of the employer, but the most frequent salary in Spain, according to INE data, is 1,320 euros gross per month, the second most frequent salary is 1,140 euros per month. Then they say that young people they don’t save and that people have to undertake, but with 1,000 euros a month, with 900, you can’t save, it doesn’t even give you enough to live with dignity, especially when you have to dedicate 70% to rent,” he lamented.

Making an international comparison, Bollain stresses that “in the Netherlands 38 euros are paid per hour per worker; in France, 37 and in Italy, 29”. “In Spain, behind Portugal and the eastern countries, it is where you pay the least in all of Europe, only 22 euros. It takes real will to change this,” he defended.

Very critical, the economist concluded his speech with a blunt message: “They told our parents and grandparents that if they worked and studied they would have a job and they did. Our generation does not. There is a new generation that has no expectations , who knows that, knows that he does, what his future does is going to be shit”.
