Law enforcement is expecting the worst. Two weeks after Nahel’s death, the July 14 festivities could mark the return of violence throughout France. So the government anticipates and warns: from this Thursday evening, 10,000 police and gendarmes will criss-cross Paris and its agglomeration. A total of 130,000 gendarmes and police will be deployed, including 45,000 each evening on July 13 and 14.

“It’s a party that no one should be able to spoil under any pretext whatsoever, warns the Keeper of the Seals, Éric Dupond-Moretti, this Thursday. Violence has no place in our society. If by chance, some wanted to spoil the party, I mean solemnly, clearly, that justice will meet its obligations. When the riots took place last week, justice showed that it was there. »

On July 4, the Ministry of Justice listed 3,625 people placed in police custody since June 30, including 1,124 minors. 990 people were brought to justice (including 480 in immediate appearance), and 380 were imprisoned. And the arrests continue.

“I again asked the magistrates for a rapid, systematic and firm response in the event of violence, in a dispatch which will be broadcast in a few hours, continued Éric Dupond-Moretti. I know I can count on them. »

According to him, the dispatch reminds magistrates “the need to be firm” and “to go on social networks to identify those guilty of violence against people or damage to property”. These investigations “have already given rise to identifications and convictions”.
