The assassination of the Archduke François-Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire by the young Bosnian Gavrilo Princip marks the beginning of the First World War. And yet, this perfectly premeditated plan almost failed. The six murderers scattered along the route of the Archduke’s car each in turn let their opportunity pass. It took an unlikely set of circumstances for the assassination to finally take place.

The attack is sponsored by the Black Hand, a secret society made up of Serbian nationalists. Six young men from Bosnia and Herzegovina volunteer to assassinate a senior Austrian official. But the arrival of François-Ferdinand in Sarajevo makes them change target. His murder will have a much more intense repercussion…
