The lowest air temperature was +2.4 degrees on June 10 in Madona, while the hottest temperature was on June 28, when the thermometer rose to +32.9 degrees in Jēkabpils and Mērsrag.
At the end of the month, 19 heat records were broken. June 28 was the first tropical night of the summer – the air temperature in the center of Riga, as well as at the Mērsraga and Ventspils observation stations, did not drop below +20 degrees.
The amount of precipitation was uneven, in general it rained more in Kurzeme, in most parts of the country the precipitation was less than the norm. On average, 54.5 millimeters of precipitation fell in the country in June, or 78% of the norm. The most precipitation – 92.5 millimeters – was in Zosēni, while the smallest amount of rain – 24.2 millimeters – was recorded at the Sīli observation station in Līvāni district.
The dryness and humidity index in June was within normal limits in almost all observation stations, but moderate dryness prevailed in five places – Alūksne, Daugavpils, Jēkabpils, Līvānu district and Rūjien.
There were thunderstorms and hail on some days and places, small tornadoes were also seen in some places, which caused damage. At the beginning of the month, rains washed out the road in Puze, but several domestic ducks were struck by lightning in Rēzekne county. On June 19, rainfall and strong wind were observed in Daugavpils and other places in Latgale, which broke trees and damaged buildings.
The average relative humidity in Latvia in June was 75% – from 69% in Riga to 82% in Kolka. The strongest gusts of wind were registered on the evening of June 30 in Liepāja port, where the wind gusts increased to 23.3 meters per second during the storm.
