Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed speculations suggesting that his team is interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward Kylian Mbappe. The 24-year-old Frenchman expressed his desire not to extend his stay with Ligue 1 champions PSG beyond next summer, leaving his future in limbo. While a $330 million offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal has been accepted, it remains unclear whether Mbappe will accept the contract.

Despite being linked with several top clubs, Klopp stated that Liverpool is not considering a move for Mbappe. When asked about the potential deal, the Liverpool manager chuckled, saying, “I can say that I think he is a really good player. But the financial framework conditions don’t suit us at all.”

Klopp further added, “I would not like to destroy the story, but as far as I know, there is nothing to it. Maybe someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me! But this has not yet happened in the eight years I have been here. That would be the first time.”

Liverpool has already welcomed two new players this summer, with the acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

Mbappe’s future with PSG initially became uncertain when he was excluded from the club’s pre-season tour and put up for sale, exacerbating contract negotiations. His current contract includes a provision for a £60 million bonus before tax, which was due on August 1. However, it is unlikely that the sum will be paid in one lump sum.

Mbappe has the option to extend his PSG contract beyond 2024 for an additional year, but the deadline to do so is today, July 31. Last Monday, Al Hilal made a world-record offer for the French international, prompting PSG to grant the player permission to meet with the Saudi Arabian club.

While PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi expressed his desire to keep Mbappe, he emphasized that the player cannot leave the club for free, citing their previous verbal agreement. Al-Khelaifi also stated, “In football standards, you never see your best player leave the club for free. It never happens.”

As Mbappe’s transfer saga continues, the football world awaits his decision, which could potentially reshape the landscape of European football.
