Jürgen Klopp: “There’s a reason no one won a quadruple”

by time news

Liverpool are dreaming of winning all the titles, but last night (Saturday) Jürgen Klopp’s team got a hard blow to their plans after finishing 1-1 at home to Tottenham. The Reds may have reached the top, but if Manchester City beat Newcastle, the Citizens will open a three-point gap, three rounds to the end of the season.

“It’s unusually difficult to play against an opponent with world – class players like Harry Kane and Hong Min Sun,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said at the end. “Obviously this is not the result we wanted and the locker room is not particularly happy, but we have to move forward we have no choice. Overall I am pleased with the performance and proud of the mentality we showed against Tottenham who are a great rival who might play in the Champions League.”

Klopp continued: “There is a reason why no team in the country has achieved the quadruple (four titles). Tottenham had the privilege of giving rest to its players like Kane and Son. That is why it is so difficult to get all the titles in one season. “We had it in the game. I’m not sad and my job as manager is to explain to the players why things did not work out.”

On the championship race, Klopp said: “I would have been happy to sit here and say City will lose points, but do not see that happening. I wish I could have thought differently, but I just did not, but we’ll see what happens.”
