The Ministry of Health is updating tonight (Monday) on a recall – a call for the return of products from the Abbott company, for special baby food compounds that are only sold by pharmacists.
These are compounds intended only for special medical conditions, and are not common shelf products.
If you have the product Similac PM60 / 40 Batch No. 27032K80 Valid April 1, 2023, or one of the products: Alimentum or HMF (breast milk enricher) Do not use the product and contact your doctor for suitable alternative feeding options.
Abbott’s announcement reads: “Following the voluntary collection announcement published on February 19 for the products Elimantum and HMF Enriched Breast Milk, as a precaution and in coordination with the Ministry of Health’s national food service, Abbott is expanding the voluntary collection to a product called Similac PM60 / 40 It is given only with a medical prescription and is intended for babies with kidney problems. “
“The collection is of a product called Similac PM60 / 40 from only one production series Batch No. 27032K80 Valid April 1, 2023. The product is given only in a medical prescription and is intended for infants with kidney problems. The product is manufactured at the Sturgis plant – Michigan USA”.
The company claims the collection comes after learning of the death of a baby in the US, who was found positive for Cronobacter sakazaki and fed on Similac PM 60/40 from this batch. “This case is still under investigation and at this stage the source of the infection has not yet been determined.”
However, no complaints have been received in Israel regarding this product. It should also be emphasized that the current move has nothing to do with the other nutrition products of Abbott that are distributed in Israel, including Similac products that are manufactured in other factories and are safe to use.
In conclusion, the company stated: “Abbott conducts comprehensive quality tests on all batches of baby food compounds, including microbiology tests before release from the factory for marketing. Recently performed – the product was found to be negative for bacterial inventions. “
