An the top of American companies, more men are named John than there are women – this is one of the statistics that has been repeated regularly for years because of its impressiveness. But now the financial service Bloomberg has counted: The relationship has changed, and has long since changed. In America, women no longer let themselves be swayed by male first names. It’s been like this since 2017. Unfortunately, nobody had looked closely since then.

That shouldn’t happen in Germany, according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sunday newspaper. So we looked, along with the AllBright Foundation. In this country, she counts the names every year, and the gap between women and the most common male chief first name – in Germany not John, but Christian – was only just last year.

Together with the AllBright Foundation, we have now gone through the 160 largest listed companies in Germany. For everyone who wants to know exactly: It’s about the corporations in the stock market indices Dax, M-Dax and S-Dax.

Nine Christians, nine women

We found nine Christians, including Christian Klein from SAP and Christian Sewing from Deutsche Bank – and nine women, for example Helen Giza at Fresenius Medical Care and Belén Garijo at Merck. The fact that the women have drawn level is mainly due to the photo service Cewe, where Yvonne Rostock took the place of Christian Friege at the beginning of the year.

But women will soon fall behind again. After all, Thyssenkrupp boss Martina Merz has just announced her retirement. A man should follow her. By June, a woman would have to be at the top of a large corporation elsewhere so that women don’t fall behind. The FAS would like to thank the AllBright Foundation and its co-head, Christian Berg.
