Prime Minister-designate MK Benjamin Netanyahu informed President Yitzhak Herzog this evening (Wednesday) that he was able to form a government. Netanyahu informed Herzog: “Dear President, thanks to the enormous public support we received in the last elections, I am informing you that I have been able to form a government that will work for the benefit of all the citizens of Israel.” The next government will consist of the factions: Likud, Shas, religious Zionism and Torah Judaism.

State President Yitzhak Herzog thanked Netanyahu: “Thank you for the announcement and I wish you success.” The duty is to act for the entire nation and the public in Israel and I hope that all of you will mobilize for this task in such a time. Good luck.”

The next step that awaits Netanyahu, beyond the completion of legislation in the Knesset for his coalition partners, is the distribution of roles among Likud members. After the initial round of talks held by Netanyahu with members of the Likud faction about two weeks ago, a complex picture emerges of great tension between the members of the movement, with the number of those demanding “considered” cases exceeding the amount of these cases left in Likud’s hands after the coalition negotiations.

“Maariv” has learned that in recent days Netanyahu is considering a creative solution to the complicated case issue. According to sources privy to the details, a few days ago MK Katz received, through unofficial channels, an offer according to which he would serve as foreign minister in rotation with another candidate, when he would serve as minister for the first two years of the term.

According to Likud sources, the “rotation solution” is expanding and now it is about an extensive round of appointments based on this. The creative idea stems from Netanyahu’s understanding that the rotation will allow him to give a number of Likud members opportunities to serve in offices that meet their expectations, when in the second half of the term they will move to offices that are considered less prestigious.
