As the 2024 Paris Olympics approach, a foreign woman has been gang raped in downtown Paris, raising concerns about public safety.

According to multiple foreign media outlets, including the British Daily Mail, on the 22nd (local time), at around 5 am on the 20th, the owner of a kebab restaurant near the Moulin Rouge cabaret theater in Paris reported to the police that a woman had been gang-raped by five men, presumed to be African.

The victim, a 25-year-old Australian woman, claimed she was attacked while in Paris attending the Fête de Musique festival.

The victim, who does not speak French, went to a kebab shop to seek help after being sexually assaulted by men. At the time of her request, she was found with her clothes inside out and holding her underwear in her hand, and her phone had also been stolen.

According to the Daily Mail, the victim was attacked the day before she was due to return to Australia, and it is not confirmed whether she is still in Paris.

Local prosecutors and police said that the victimized woman was having difficulty stating the exact location of the crime or the exact details of the situation, and that the crime was presumed to have occurred between the afternoon of the 19th and the early morning of the 20th. They also said that they plan to secure nearby CCTV footage to quickly identify the suspects.

Paris police are focusing on strengthening security by deploying approximately 45,000 police officers and 18,000 military police from 43 countries to ensure safety during the Olympic Games, which will run from the 26th to the 12th of next month.

Since last week, there have been extensive armed patrols along the Seine and several security zones have been set up around the city. For certain areas, including the Eiffel Tower, people wishing to enter must apply for a permit at a police-operated platform.

Vehicle traffic is also restricted, with only vehicles with parking permits or vehicles involved in emergency situations being allowed to enter the area.
