Justin Timberlake Reveals Lyme Disease Diagnosis, Completed World Tour Despite Health Battle
Despite a challenging health struggle, Justin Timberlake completed his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, culminating in a July 30th performance in Istanbul, before publicly revealing his diagnosis of Lyme disease.
The “SexyBack” singer first informed fans in July about his ongoing health issues, explaining the diagnosis shed light on debilitating symptoms he experienced while performing. He emphasized his intention wasn’t to solicit sympathy, but to provide context for what he’d been facing “behind the scenes.”
Battling Illness On and Off Stage
Timberlake’s statement detailed how the Lyme disease diagnosis helped explain periods of intense nerve pain, debilitating fatigue, and general sickness experienced even while onstage. He faced a difficult decision: halt the tour or persevere and find a way to manage his condition.
“I was faced with a personal decision. Stop touring? Or, keep going and figure it out,” Timberlake shared. Ultimately, the artist chose to continue with the tour.
Prioritizing Performance and Transparency
The singer, who initially gained fame as a member of the iconic boy band NSYNC, found that the joy of performing outweighed the physical challenges. “The joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I’m so glad I kept going,” he stated.
Timberlake proactively chose to be transparent about his struggles, stating he did so to prevent misinterpretations. He has two sons, Silas, 10, and Phineas, 5, with The Sinner actress. This openness reflects a commitment to honesty with his fanbase while navigating a personal health crisis.
