Olympic champion in the mass start in Beijing in 2022, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet beat the Swedish sisters Elvira and Hanna Oeberg on Sunday. She is taking advantage of this perfect weekend to at the same time grab the yellow bib as leader of the Biathlon World Cup.
Very solid behind her rifle, the 27-year-old Frenchwoman blanked all twenty targets, while the Oeberg sisters missed two shots and had to turn twice on the penalty ring. In the end, Braisaz-Bouchet beat Elvira by five seconds and Hanna by ten seconds.
Leader of the World Cup before the mass start, the Norwegian Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold took 5th place and ceded first place in the general ranking of the World Cup to the Frenchwoman by 10 points (427 against 417).
Simon 6th, Chauveau 10th
This is the seventh individual victory in the World Cup for Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, the eighth adding the title of Olympic champion won in 2022. She is making her return to the World Cup this winter, after a maternity break during the 2022/23 season.
The French women once again achieved a top collective performance since Julia Simon took 6th place after her second place in the pursuit on Saturday and Sophie Chauveau finished in the top 10, ninth. Julia Simon may regret one last missed target on her standing shot, which could have allowed her to get back on the podium.
Out of eight individual races since the start of winter, the French have won five, since before Braisaz-Bouchet’s hat-trick, Lou Jeanmonnot had achieved the sprint/pursuit double in Östersund (Sweden) at the beginning of December.
